hnLARGE BREED DOG RESCUE
Behavioural Assessment Form

Dogs assessed by LARGE BREED DOG RESCUE are done so by qualified / experienced volunteers and wherever possible, two volunteers will be present at the time of assessment.
The welfare & the safety of all dogs & volunteers is of top priority at all times and therefore the assessments may be stopped at any time before being completed.
The behaviours shown in this assessment were seen on the date shown below but can change at any time (i.e. if a dog has been in kennels for a long period or once a dog is placed in a home)

SITUATION DOGS REACTION
Person approaches dog in kennel Very excitable welcoming, friendly, very approachable
Person enters kennel to put leash on As above
Person takes dog out for a walk Needs lead work very pulley
Person walks past while dog is eating high value food No issues showed, No unwantedbehaviour
Person tries to pick up / take high value food As above

SITUATION
DOGS REACTION
Person tries to touch toy that dog is playing with Rocky sees this as a game and is happy to play
Person reaches hand out towards dog Rocky sees this as affection and fun and games
Person reaches over dogs head As above
Person grabs at dogs collar / neck Little worried, but then goes into play mode
Person hugs dog around the neck Very welcoming, sees it as affection
Person pushes down on dogs back Very welcoming in sees it as affection
Person pushes down on dogs rump No issues shown again sees it as affection
Person tries to get dog to lay down by voice command Rocky knows this command
Person tries to get dog to lay by physically pushing Rocky does this with ease then wants a tummy rub
Person tries to groom dog (head, body)
Rocky loves being groomed
Person touches dogs feet Allows you to do this he sees it as a game
Person clips dogs toenails
Not keen but no unwanted bwhaviour
Person tries to bathe dog including towelling off Not tested

SITUATION DOGS REACTION
Person tries to open dogs mouth Allows you to do this without issue
Person holds eye contact with dog Briefly holds contact and then looks away
Person shouts loudly near dog Came to investigate not worried
Person threatens dog with an object Rocky sees this as an invitation to play
Person drops an object near dog Sniffed it, investigated, not worried
Stranger knocks on the door No issues, will bark but happy to see people
Strangers enters the room Comes over for a fuss no issues shown
Stranger tries to pet the dog in the room Rocky will want to sit on your lap and give kisses
Stranger pets the dog outside Very friendly wants to give kisses
Stranger approaches dog in car Excited to greet the people
Stranger shouts loudly in dog presence Comes over for a fuss no issues shown
Dog walks past familiar, non reactive dog Not tested
Dog walks past unfamiliar non reactive dog Introduced himself well and then walked away
Dog walks past familiar reactive dog Barked back, could be walked away with ease
SITUATION DOGS REACTION
Dog walks past unfamiliar reactive dog Not tested
Dog sees cat outside

Rocky has lived with cats without issue
Person holds cat in close proximity of the dog Not tested





Can the dog live with children (if so, which age) .....Yes 8 and above as very bouncy

Assessors overall general opinion of the dog: ..Friendly lovely lad, needs further training and socialisation with other dogs bit excitable

What type of home will the dog need: .....active home will need 1 ½ to 2 hours walk a day

What type of home would not suit the dog: ...would not really suit a home with very young children as he may knock them over as he is very bouncy, a home not wanting to exercise much as he needs to drain energy, he would not suit a home not willing to put in the training and socialisation


All these behaviours were shown at the time of this assessment however these behaviours may change in different circumstances.
